When Waiting Is No Longer the Assignment: How to Move in Obedience and Own Your Impact
There comes a season in life when waiting is no longer the assignment. What once required patience now requires action. What once needed prayer now needs obedience. And knowing the difference can change everything.
Many purpose-driven women, authors, and entrepreneurs feel stuck not because they lack vision, faith, or ability — but because they are waiting for conditions God never promised. Waiting to feel ready. Waiting for clarity. Waiting for confidence. Waiting for confirmation.
But sometimes, waiting is no longer obedience — it’s hesitation.
And this is where The Power of Now becomes real.
Understanding the Difference Between Waiting on God and Delaying Obedience
Waiting on God is biblical. It’s often necessary. It builds trust, discipline, and spiritual maturity.
But delaying obedience looks different.
You may be delaying obedience if:
You already know the next step but keep postponing it
You keep asking God for clarity He’s already given
You’re calling fear “patience”
You keep saying “soon” instead of “yes”
When this happens, waiting is no longer the assignment.
The assignment becomes movement.
A Simple Christmas Moment That Revealed a Bigger Truth
This past Christmas, I didn’t ask for much. Honestly, I rarely do.
But there was one thing I mentioned — a Stanley cup.
On Christmas Eve, my husband was running around trying to find one, and he did. What he forgot was that he had already ordered one online earlier. So the next day, another cup showed up. Then another package arrived — my little sister had also ordered me one.
Three cups.
One ask.
In that moment, God reminded me how often we:
Hesitate to ask
Downplay what He’s placed inside of us
Sit on assignments because they feel small, unfinished, or unclear
We tell ourselves we’re waiting on God, when in reality, God is waiting on us.
The Biblical Foundation: Small Obedience Leads to Big Impact (John 6)
That moment took me straight to John chapter 6, the story of the five loaves and two fish.
The miracle didn’t begin with abundance.
It didn’t begin with preparation or certainty.
It began with obedience.
A boy offered what he had — even though it didn’t look like enough. And once it was placed in Jesus’ hands, it became more than enough.
This is a powerful reminder for authors, entrepreneurs, and visionaries:
God doesn’t multiply what we withhold. He multiplies what we move with.
Silence Is Not Stagnation — But Silence Is Not Always a Stop Sign
There are quiet seasons where God is refining us, building our character, and strengthening our foundation. Silence doesn’t automatically mean stagnation.
But silence also doesn’t always mean stop.
Sometimes silence means:
God trusts you to move without applause
The foundation is being tested
The next step requires faith, not feelings
Roots grow underground. Strength develops quietly. But growth still requires action.
A Real-Life Example of Acting When Waiting Was No Longer the Assignment
One of my podcast training clients, Ashley Shepard — known as the pre-order GOAT — teaches authors how to build profitable book pre-orders. She understands strategy, visibility, and execution.
But when it was time for her to launch her own podcast, she reached a decision point.
Instead of overthinking, she booked my comprehensive podcast training. She recognized that I had successfully launched multiple podcasts, trusted the process, and acted.
She moved.
And she launched.
This is what happens when you stop waiting and start responding.
Why This Message Matters for Authors and Purpose-Driven Creators
This message is especially for you if:
You’ve written the book but haven’t taken the next step
You have the idea but keep delaying execution
You know God called you to build, speak, teach, or create
You feel stuck even though the vision is clear
At this point, waiting is no longer the assignment.
Obedience is.
What God May Be Asking You to Do Right Now
Ask yourself honestly:
What have I been praying about that already has instructions attached?
What step keeps coming back to my spirit?
Where have I been waiting out of fear, not faith?
Then act on one thing today.
Send the email.
Book the consultation.
Write the outline.
Press record.
Say yes to support.
Final Reminder: Power Is in Obedience, Not Delay
Power isn’t in waiting.
Power is in obedience.
Power is in responding when God says, “Move.”
Sometimes God isn’t withholding the next step.
He’s waiting on your yes.
And when waiting is no longer the assignment,
movement becomes the miracle.
